In a match, during a ride-off, when the direction of the play suddenly changes; how can you turn in the same direction as the opponent, yet not be left behind ?
The answer is by turning inside the opponent. To do this, you have to slow down or even stop, waiting with your eyes focused on the tail of the other pony, until it reaches the nose of your pony, before neck-reining. Strong legs application will be essential if you are to succeed. With good timing, despite starting the turn after the opponent, you can find yourself going in the new direction slightly ahead and therefore in control of a ride-off.
